Mango finally had her litter of piglets on Friday 22 April and after all the hype about how big she was she only had 3! This could be due to her breed who are renowned for having small litters, which is why she is crossed with a Duroc boar who is more commercial and prolific - sometimes the characteristics come out on one side or other. Luckily all 3 are looking well, they will certainly be well fed!
They will have an iron jab on Thursday and it will give us the chance to give them a proper check over. Their lovely stripes are for camouflage in the wild, they lose their stripes after about 3 weeks and they will double in size in the first week. I am wondering whether to hire a mangolitza boar next so we get some pedigree piglets.
